USING THE SWOT ANALYSIS METHOD AS A PREREQUISITE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT IN HEALTHCARE INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

The introduction of strategic management in health care institutions is necessary to ensure their competitiveness and quality provision of medical services. This allows medical institutions to respond to changing conditions in a timely manner and to succeed in conditions of constant competition. In view of this, an important and necessary scientific task is the use of strategic management tools for the organization of strategic management in health care institutions. To achieve the goal, SWOT analysis was used as an effective tool for researching the internal and external environment of medical institutions and determining their strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats affecting their activity and development. The article is devoted to the topical issues of the introduction of strategic management in health care institutions, the identification of the main problem areas of their activity in order to respond to potential threats in a timely manner. The essence of SWOT analysis is considered and the obtained results for health care institutions are summarized. The indicators of the internal environment of medical institutions were considered in terms of its following components: financial and economic potential, marketing potential; personnel potential; the state of the material and technical base. The strengths and weaknesses of the components of the internal environment, which, respectively, positively or negatively affect the activity and development of health care institutions, have been identified. The following are considered as the main components of the external environment that influence the formation of the current situation in the field of health care: macroeconomic stability, socio-economic factors; infrastructure development; regulatory framework. At the intersection of each component of the external environment of health care institutions, opportunities and threats are identified, that is, external factors that can either stimulate or inhibit their development in modern conditions. The results of the SWOT analysis, which can be the basis for the formation of effective strategies for the development of health care facilities, have great practical significance.
