METHODS OF ATTRACTING FINANCIAL RESOURCES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Abstract
Social entrepreneurship is a relatively new type of activity for the Ukrainian economy; therefore, it needs conditions and support mechanisms to be developed that shall not only solve social problems but also stimulate citizen activism. In contrast to traditional entrepreneurship, profit is not the main purpose of social entrepreneurship; its goal and mission are rather social in nature, such as solving social, environmental, or social issues, providing assistance to vulnerable groups, people in difficult life situations, etc. Funding of social enterprises plays an important role in improving the quality of life of the country's population. If social responsibility increases, the state’s social development indicators also grow, the unemployment rate decreases that confirms funding efficiency of social enterprises. This paper analyses the utilisation of financial instruments for social entrepreneurship that are divided according to types of investors with different financial requirements and analyses the concept of ‘social entrepreneurship’ as a type of entrepreneurial activity that is gradually gaining popularity and most entrepreneurs begin to develop in this direction. The creation of any business, including the social one, requires funding. Therefore, the paper examines the funding sources: investments of the founders, income from their own business, profits; credit resources, grants, fundraising, crowdfunding, business angels, philanthropy; networking; intangible support of partners, subsidies, other sources of funding. In the process of research, there were utilised primary methods such as information collection, study of sources, observations as well as secondary methods such as processing and analysis of the obtained results, qualitative analysis of data and its systematisation. The theoretical significance of the paper lays in expanding the theoretical and methodological provisions for attracting financial resources for the development of social entrepreneurship in terms of systematisation of financial instruments used in international practice. The practical significance of the study lies in identifying the low level of use of new financial instruments for the development of social entrepreneurship in Ukraine.
